The Natural Hair Movement Continues in Philadelphia!
First Annual Exhibition Showcasing Natural Hair Comes to the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel, May 4, 2013

PHILADELPHIA, PA ‐ The Philadelphia Natural Hair Show will debut on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 10 AM to 7 PM. This event will showcase leading hair care experts, celebrity hairstylists, salons, top natural hair care companies, and local businesses to hundreds of women of color women from the tri‐state area. It will be held in the heart of center city at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel, 201 North 17th Street, Philadelphia, PA. Tickets are $20 and can be purchase at phillynaturalhairshow.eventbrite.com. Children 12 years old and under attend free.
Today, more women of color are choosing to wear their hair in its natural state. The Philadelphia Natural Hair Show, founded by Monique P. Eversley and Celena McAfee, was created to offer women with curly‐textured tresses alternative methods to grow and retain healthy hair. Attendees can participate in a series of workshops that include: maintenance for transitioning hair to its natural state; understanding hair types and products that work best for them; and hands‐on styling techniques for home usage. In addition, there will be focus group discussions that consist of a variety of hair trending topics including the corporate politics of ethnic hair. Professional stylists will also demonstrate creative options to give women various hairstyles that will take them from casual to corporate environments. “Our goal is to empower women to adapt natural hairstyles to their personal and professional lifestyles,” said Co‐founder Monique P. Eversley.
“It is a great opportunity to embrace the beauty of natural hair and to learn about the various health benefits, products and services to aid women in this process,” commented Co‐founder Celena McAfee.
Attendees will meet Felicia Leatherwood, celebrity hairstylist, Lori L. Tharps, author of Hair Story: Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America, along with other natural hair experts. Attendees will also receive goodie bags with products from Miss Jessie’s, Hair Rules, Wonder Curl, and others while supplies last. This event will culminate with the Textures Not Textiles Natural Hair Fashion Show that will highlight natural hair salons and stylists. Men are also encouraged to attend and enjoy the show. As a treat for our registered attendees, free haircuts courtesy of Mike Monroe from ESPM Hair Zone will be offered to young males between 5 to 12 years old.
